Storm Damage Roof Repair in Pensacola, FL

Pensacola addresses split two ways. Homes inside city limits, including Downtown, East Hill, North Hill and Cordova Park, are permitted by the City's Inspection Services on the fifth floor of City Hall, 222 W. Main St. (850-436-5600). The city takes roofing permits electronically through MGO.

Much of what people call Pensacola is actually unincorporated Escambia County: Ferry Pass, Warrington, Ensley, West Pensacola and Beulah among them. Those roofs are permitted by Escambia County Building Services instead, with walk-in counters at 3363 West Park Place and at 3470 N. Highway 29.

For a city reroof, the inspection list includes a sheathing check before dry-in, covering the roof sheathing, its fasteners and the dry-in, and a roofing final that looks at the dry-in, roof covering and flashing. For site-built single-family homes, the city's roofing permit paperwork also includes a roofing inspection affidavit. Inspections are scheduled online or through the city's phone line at 866-957-3764, option 5.

For county addresses, Escambia puts storm repair permits at the front of the line. Roof covering replacement and roof structure repair are both on its expedited list, and the Board of County Commissioners can vote to waive permit fees for storm repairs, though a waived fee doesn't mean the permit is waived. Emergency work to keep weather out is allowed ahead of the paperwork, with the application due within 7 days.

Pensacola Beach runs under Santa Rosa Island Authority leases. The county says any permit application there must first be approved by the Island Authority's floodplain administrator, and that all work on the beach needs Island Authority approval even when the county wouldn't require a permit.
